Day 218: So It Goes
“So it goes.” —Kurt Vonnegut, Slaughterhouse-Five
Today feels like one of those days where Vonnegut’s words ring particularly true. In the quiet acceptance of whatever life throws my way, I find a strange kind of solace. It’s not resignation, but rather a recognition of life’s ebb and flow, its inexplicable turns and the inevitable ups and downs.
This phrase has become a mantra for moments like today—days that don’t stand out for any particular reason, yet somehow leave me contemplative and introspective. “So it goes” is a reminder that life continues, irrespective of our personal dramas, our highs and lows. It’s a nod to the universe’s indifferent yet rhythmic dance, where each event comes and goes with a natural, if sometimes harsh, cadence.
In a way, adopting this outlook helps me cope with the uncertainties and the uncontrollables. It allows me to let go of the need for everything to make perfect sense or to align perfectly with my desires. Instead, I focus on flowing with life’s currents, taking things as they come, and finding peace in the knowledge that this, too, is just a part of the journey.
As I reflect on this, I realize that even on an unremarkable day, there is a lesson to be learned. The lesson today is about acceptance—about understanding that not every day needs to be monumental or transformative. Some days are just links in the chain, necessary passages that connect more significant experiences. And that’s okay.
So, as I close another chapter of my daily journey, I do so with a calm heart and a quiet mind, comforted by the simple yet profound wisdom that life goes on, and so will I.

One Step. One Punch. One Round.🌹
