Day 205: Shining Light on Mental Health

Day 205: Shining Light on Mental Health

“What mental health needs is more sunlight, more candor, and more unashamed conversation.” —Glenn Close

In the quiet of today, as I look back on the days spent isolated in that small RV, I’m reminded of a crucial lesson: being in the best physical shape of my life wasn’t enough to fend off the shadows cast by unresolved inner conflicts. It wasn’t enough to heal the wounds hidden beneath the surface.

Growing up, therapy was often viewed through a lens of judgment and misunderstanding. It was something others did, not something one openly discussed without risking stigma. But the truth is, no amount of physical training could address the deeper issues that plagued me—issues that stem from childhood traumas and the relentless pressures I placed on myself.

It was in that RV, cut off from the world yet trapped with my own spiraling thoughts, that I realized something important: the battles I was fighting needed more than just physical strength; they required emotional and psychological resilience, tools that only therapy could offer.

This journey of healing and self-discovery has taught me that mental health is just as important as physical health, and it deserves the same level of care and attention. Therapy isn’t a sign of weakness; it’s a step towards empowerment. It’s a place where you learn to dismantle the burdens you’ve carried in silence, a space where healing begins with conversation.

And so, I write this not just for myself but for anyone out there who feels weighed down by invisible battles. Let’s bring these discussions into the light. Let’s talk about mental health with the same openness and seriousness as we do about any other aspect of our health. Because if there’s one thing I’ve learned, it’s that healing begins the moment we decide to speak openly and without shame about our struggles.

Today, I challenge each of us to reflect on how we view mental health and to take a step towards breaking down the barriers of silence. Let’s make mental health a part of our everyday conversations. Because in doing so, we not only help ourselves but we also help those around us to feel a little less alone.
